Reproduction and Restoration
Atkins does excellent scanning and copy work. This means we can make a great digital representation of your pictures and artworks.
Our flexible service level allows for a scan that is a good representation of the original, through to one that is as precise a copy that can be done. Matching an original is an art form.
Better Light
Better Light print ready reproduction is far superior to any other method. More and more of the worlds highest quality fine art reproduction and museum archiving is being accomplished with Better Light scanning backs.
The larger the format the better the reproduction of detail from the original. Better Light scanning backs are made for 4 x 5 view cameras and copy stands and provide digital capture quality superior to any other digital camera system.
Pure RGB pixel data captures billions of accurate colours with outstanding detail and clarity. Ultimate resolution along with the lack of film grain and accuracy of focus, exposure and tone control make these digital files as close to perfection as possible.

DSLR
DSLR is a professional grade camera with interchangeable lenses. At Atkins we would rather photograph an original than use a flat bed scanner.
Flat bed scanners are very much designed for simple originals with a standard surface. We prefer to use photography to digitise an original because we can control the lighting, and manipulate the look of the copy. Many originals have a patina from age, or a high gloss, or perhaps colours that a flat bed struggles to capture, or avoid capturing.
From the camera we get a RAW file, we then process the file in Photoshop, whilst referring to the original, to a good representation. If you were looking for a replica of your original, we would direct you to our Better Light copy process. The DSLR copy is suitable for a copy used as a small to medium sized print, or for web use.
Restoration
Not every picture is perfect. Our skilled Photoshop artists can work magic with your photographs, from a full restoration of an old image, to hand colouring of a black and white photo, to a change of background.
The focus at Atkins will always be the print and it is a real challenge getting artwork to look good for printing. Our team are always being tested because our work is always printed.
Price for artwork restoration is per quote.
