Colour Correction

This is where Atkins really excels. Digital cameras and scanners do not know what good colour is! Only humans can judge this. Most digital labs simply run-out your files as they are presented, but we offer a second level of service where our skilled operators optimise your file for printing.

With operators having thirty plus years of experience in assessing colour, we will always get the best from your digital files. We offer several levels of colour correction, first proof quality (colour correct proof service), where twenty or more images are ‘tuned up’ to a professional proof standard, secondly we offer print colour correction, where each image is carefully adjusted to get the best from the file. Beyond colour correction, we offer a full range of retouching services.

Why?

People assume what comes our of their digital camera has perfect colour, but it merely a machine using software. For the past thirty years, programmers working for such companies as Fuji and Kodak have been trying to write software that can automatically colour correct pictures. The big camera manufacturers joined the race, as did Adobe, and to this day, nothing can better a human at colour correction.

If you think just using a grey card or colour checker to make the colour accurate, consider this, why does make-up exist, why do people self tan? People all not only look different, but want to look different. It takes human intervention to appreciate this and compensate, accurate is not often 'right'.

Atkins' colour correction specialists have a wealth of experience, the average is over twenty years in this role. But it is more than experience, it is a combination of the best equipment for the job, regularly profiled EIZO Colour Edge displays, and continual testing.

The testing is our secret sauce. Because our people get to see their work printed immediately, they get feedback immediately, and often they have to retest or reprint. No other colour correction service is so well tuned, so many just deliver the digital files. Print is still our Everest, and we reach the summit every day.
